Peraugan (stuffed Cabbage Leaves)

 

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. Ground beef
  • 1 Egg
  • ¼ cup Rice - or more
  • Salt & pepper
  • 1 med Cabbage
  • 1 Onion – chopped
  • 1 can Sauerkraut (lg)

Directions

Mix ground beef, egg, onion rice, salt and pepper. Divide into 8 - 10 mounds. Drop cabbage leaves into boiling water until limp. Put each mound of meat onto a cabbage leaf and rollup. Line the bottom of a Dutch oven with sauerkraut and layer half the rolls, adding a little more rice. Add more sauerkraut and rest of cabbage rolls. Add a little more rice and water and any remaining kraut. Simmer for 3 hrs or so, adding water if needed. Serve with boiled potatoes and applesauce.

Great family favorite especially the males.
