Thumbprint Cookies

 

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup Veg. shortening
  • ¼ cup Butter
  • ¼ cup Brown sugar
  • 1 large Egg yolk
  • ½ tsp. Vanilla
  • 1 cup Flour – sifted
  • ¼ tsp. Salt
  • ¾ cup Finely chopped nuts

Directions

Mix together thoroughly the shortening, butter, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Sift flour and salt together and stir into mix. Roll into one inch balls (you may want to chill dough an hour or so). Dip into slightly beaten egg white. Roll in nuts. Place about one inch apart on an un-greased cookie sheet. Bake 5 min. @ 375 deg. Remove from oven and quickly press thumb on top of each cookie. Return to oven for about 8 min. more. Cool. Fill hollows with colored icings or melted chocolate.

A must for Christmas. Look and taste good too. Rather putsy but worth it!
