Merks Coffee Cake
Ingredients
- ½ cup Shortening
- ¾ cup Sugar
- 1 tsp. Vanilla
- 3 lg Eggs
- 2 cups Sifted four
- 1 tsp. Baking powder
- 1 tsp. Baking soda
- ½ pint Sour cream
Filling
- 6 Tbsp. Soft butter
- 1 cup Brown sugar
- 1½ tsp. Cinnamon
- 1 cup Chopped nuts
Directions
Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla together thoroughly. Add eggs singly, beating well after each addition. Sift dry ingredients together. Add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, blending well after each addition. Spread half of batter in 10” tube pan that has been greased and lined (on bottom) with waxed paper. Cream butter, brown sugar and cinnamon together. Add nuts and mix well. Sprinkle half over batter in tube pan and cover with remaining batter following with rest of sugar mixture. Bake @ 350 degrees for about 50 min. Cool upright and remove from pan.
